FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Largo, Md. (September 27, 2017) - Prince George’s Community College’s (PGCC) Athletic Department will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a year-long celebration of the Past, Present and Future. The festivities will kick off on Friday, September 29 with a men’s soccer game against Frederick Community College.
The activities continue with the Student-Athlete Alumni Day on Saturday, September 30 from 2 – 6 p.m. at PGCC’s Bermuda Soccer Field. Former PGCC student-athletes will have the opportunity to participate in alumni games and contests and enjoy a catered barbecue. The 50th Anniversary celebration gives the college an opportunity to reconnect with alumni, teach current student-athletes about the college’s athletic history, and engage with prospective students.
Over the past five decades, the PGCC athletic department has produced top ranking men’s soccer, basketball, and track and field teams. To honor the athletic department’s past and celebrate its future, the department unveiled a new sports jersey on September 15. The new commemorative jersey is gold with a Columbia blue accent color and the letters PGCC across the chest. Gold is a staple color for the College’s intercollegiate athletics as it was one of the first colors used in the uniforms. It is also the color used to signify 50 years.
To culminate the athletic department’s 50th Anniversary, the department is set to host the Inaugural Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on April 23, 2018. The department will release the nomination process at the Student-Athlete Alumni Day and will accept nominations starting on Monday, October 2.
In addition to the Student-Athlete Alumni Day, year-long celebration activities include an Alumni Appreciation Night, a Kid’s Night Out, and an Old Fashion Baseball Game.
